Es ist wieder passiert, Leyda ist erneut mit hohen Prämierungen in Robert Parkers Wine Advocate ins neue Jahr gestartet. Die Tasting Notes und Parker Punkte im Einzelnen und im Original:
2011 Leyda Pinot Noir Lot 21 – 92 points“The 2011 Lot 21 Pinot Noir comes from specially selected rows in the Cahuil vineyard (Oregon clone) from limestone soils and sees 10% new oak. It has an elegant nose with pure red cherries, wild strawberry and minerals. It is extremely well defined and Vosne-like in style. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins, shimmering red berry fruit mixed with crushed stone and citrus peel. It is extremely well focused and penetrating, with a lively, sophisticated finish. This is how Chilean Pinot Noir should be.”
2010 Leyda Canelo Syrah – 92 points“The 2010 Canelo Syrah has a tightly coiled bouquet of blackberry, thyme, brume and wild heather that is well defined but needs bottle age to open up. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, fleshy tannins. The acidity is completely in synch with the fruit, lending this Syrah immense harmony and precision towards the pretty, feminine, Cote-Rotie like finish. This is another excellent wine from Leyda.”
2011 Leyda Chardonnay Falaris Hill Vineyard – 92 points“Neither Chardonnay undergoes malolactic fermentation in order to maintain freshness. The 2011 Single Vineyard Fallaris Chardonnay undergoes a semi-reductive fermentation, ending its fermentation in barrel and sees 20% new oak. It has a light, clean nose of popcorn and almond that displays fine lift and delineation. The palate is well defined with fine minerality on the entry. It is well balanced and focused, very Burgundian in style with superb precision on the finish. This is a top quality Chilean Chardonnay.”
2011 Leyda Pinot Noir Cahuil Vineyard – 91 points“The 2011 Cahuil Pinot Noir comes from a northwest-facing vineyard planted in red clay soils. The nose is clean and pure with brambly red fruit, a hint of damson and blueberry with fine underlying minerality. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, tensile tannins supporting crisp, dark berry, spicy Pinot fruit. It is well balanced, clean and expressive with the judicious oak neatly complementing the fruit profile. This is a well made, Burgundy-like Pinot Noir from Leyda.”
2011 Leyda Chardonnay Lot 5 Wild Yeasts – 90 points“Neither Chardonnay undergoes malolactic fermentation in order to maintain freshness. The 2011 Lot 5 Chardonnay is fashioned in a more oxidative style than the Fallaris, and that shows through on the walnut and smoke scented bouquet. The palate is crisp and taut on the entry with vibrant notes of sour lemon, lime, hazelnut and orange peel, with a slight sherry-like tincture in the finish. This is an intriguing, distinctive Chardonnay.”
2010 Leyda Syrah Reserva – 90 points“The 2010 Syrah Reserva has an uncomplicated, slightly reductive bouquet that opens nicely with aeration. The palate has a well defined entry with vibrant red berries and white pepper that leads to an elegant, poised finish. This reminds me of some of South Africa’s fine Rhone blends.”
